There is a pigeon who often comes to my balcony
and pecks at my mother’s plants. My mom, my little sister Vira, my aunty Lizzy
and I keep on shooing it away but it just keeps coming back.
One day I came home from school and went to see
the pigeon. What I saw gave me a big surprise. I saw Beckey [ the pigeon mother]
sitting on two eggs!! I thought that Beckey would like something to eat so, I
ran into the kitchen and came back with some red dal. I came closer and
closer and petted Beckey. Then I called my mother on the phone and told her
Beckey had laid two eggs. My mother was very happy and surprised. Then in the
night, everybody was talking about the eggs.
After two weeks or so the eggs hatched. Out came
two ugly, featherless pigeon chicks. I was surprised because I had expected the
pigeon chicks to come out of the eggs with feathers. When I asked my mother
this question, she told me that the pigeon chicks would slowly grow their
feathers and when I asked how to differentiate between a boy and a girl my mom
said that a boy would be fatter than a girl and my mother asked us to come up
with some name. We thought about some names and Vira and I came up with these
names with Rikki and Ryan. The pigeons are still in my balcony growing bigger
and fatter until they are big enough to leave the nest and I will surely miss
them.
